One
of 13 children born to Ted and Sadie Roach of Washington, D.C., Michael sings
and plays guitar in an East Coast style of blues that dates back to the 1920s.
Mentored by John Jackson and taught by John Cephas and Jerry Ricks as well,
he’s promoted African-American culture through the use of blues throughout the
US and Europe. He’s lectured for the Smithsonian Institute and Oxford
University and conducted workshops throughout both continents. The Guardian
especially praised Michael’s workshop at the last Bishopstock Festival as
one of the
highlights of the weekend.
Michael will be leading guitar workshops again this year at the Gloucester Music and Drama Library.
