Joanne Shaw-Taylor
Still only 19, Joanne is creating a huge interest nationally with the
maturity and energy of her playing. Influenced by the playing of blues legends
such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins and BB King, Joanne must rank as one
of the most promising blues guitarists to hit the scene in recent years. Her
'attacking style' and 'attitude' along with her natural feel for the blues is
setting her apart from her contemporaries, and is helping to bring blues to a
new and younger audience.
The Joanne Shaw Taylor Band is a 4-piece band fronted by Joanne on lead guitar
and vocals, with Roger Inniss on bass (Climax Blues Band, Elkie Brookes), Jamie
Little on drums (Ruby Turner, Dana Gillesspie, Steve Gibbons) and Phil Kingston
on piano and Hammond organ. The band plays a 'high energy set' combining both
blues standards and original blues material.
Joanne has been invited to play regularly at prime blues venues throughout the
country. In November 2000, Joanne performed at the 'Music Live' show at the NEC
after coming to the attention of BRMB radio, and headlined at the prestigious
Ronnie Scott's venue while still only 15 years of age. She has now built up a
huge local following and plays to packed houses wherever she performs.
Joanne's own compositions have enjoyed top 20 success in the MP3.Com blues
charts, and achieved numbers one, two and three simultaneously in the UK
Sounds.com general chart.
She last played at the Gloucester Blues Festival in 2002, and has since worked
with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics.
